Just rough cut out the templates. I will begin work on this one next Friday. I plan on gluing up the neck blank and rough cutting out the bubinga and rosewood body. Perhaps if I am lucky I will make the fretboard as well.

March 1, 2009

I got a lot of work done on this bass today. I cut out the bubinga and rosewood to the body shape, made the ebony fretboard and cut the fret slots. I also cut the wenge and bubinga for the neck blank, I just need to glue it up.

March 5, 2009

It might not look like much, but a lot has been done since last time. Nearly everything is glued up. I rough cut out the neck and headstock, rough cut out the fretboard and the body is ready to be rounded over tomorrow.

March 6, 2009

The body is rounded over, just a little burning on the edges. It will be sanded out easily. At the end of the day I glued the body wings to the neck through.

March 17, 2009

It doesn’t look like there is a lot done since last time, but there is. Here is everything sitting in place:

Then the front and back with everything glued in place:

Hopefully this Friday I can drill the string through furrels, make the control cavity, finish shaping the neck and possibly put the frets in.

March 20, 2009

I got the string through holes and tuner holes drilled. The fretboard is trimmed to its final size. I started contouring the front and back. I would have liked to start the control cavity, but the day went by too fast.

March 22, 2009

Just seeing what it looks like with most of the parts on it.

March 27, 2009

I hammered the frets in. I still need to do all the leveling and crowning. I also got the control cavity done with matching bubinga cover.

March 31, 2009

I got a little update from Searcy String Works on the pickup.

April 1, 2009

I pretty much finished the frets today and got some more pictures from Clint Searcy.

April 15, 2009

I got the pickup in from Searcy String Works and I just can’t wait to test it out. This friday I will route out the hole for it and finish a lot of little things that need to be done before I can start finish sanding.

April 16, 2009

The pickup is in!

May 17, 2009

There hasn’t been much to update with this bass lately as I have just been sanding it. I started applying the finish yesterday and here is where it stands now.

May 18, 2009

The finish is just about done.

May 22, 2009

Just a test fit of most of the parts. I still need to drill some holes, do the electronics and put a finish on the truss rod and control cavity covers.

Done!!

Customer Testimonial

"I fell in love with the Rainbow the day I got it. What craftsmanship from Jared on the collection of wood used on this magnificent bass. The tone is amazing, and my fan base always wants to check it out. What an eye catcher! I look forward to working with Jared on my next bass creation. I recommend JC Basses to any professional player looking for a quality custom bass.”
